Award Winning Editor and Photographer
John Keating has been named Director of Multimedia Newsgathering and Photography for Newsday, a key new role as the company embarks on the next phase of visual report and storytelling. In this role, John is responsible for directing the daily video/visual coverage in all areas of news, lifestyle, sports, and business, collaborating with the editor and the leaders of those departments to provide assets to be used across all platforms.
As Assistant Managing Editor for Photography, he led his team to winning numerous national, state, and local journalism awards, including First Place finishes in the Pictures of the Year International Competition, the Scripps Howard Awards for Visual Journalism, The New York Emmys, and the National Headliners Awards. John has won the title of Photographer of the Year twice; once from the National Press Photographers Association Region 8, and once from the New York Press Photographers Association. He was part of the Newsday team that won the Pulitzer Prize for coverage of the TWA 800 plane crash.
John traveled extensively, covering photographic assignments in Bosnia, Kosovo, Israel, Japan, Haiti, Mexico, Central America, Puerto Rico, Montserrat, St Croix, and numerous destinations across the United States.
